ALBANY, NY (June 29, 2023) – In light of the United States Supreme Court’s decision to ban affirmative action in college admissions, CICU President Lola W. Brabham issued the following statement:
“New York’s Independent Sector of Higher Education is disappointed and disturbed by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling banning affirmative action in college admissions. New York’s independent colleges and universities remain committed to diversity and inclusion as substantial enrichments of the educational experience.
New York’s independent colleges consider many variables when making admission decisions, with the goals of ensuring a diverse student body and opening pathways for historically underrepresented groups. Despite the Court’s decision, the Independent Sector remains committed to breaking down generational barriers that have long denied underrepresented students access to higher education.”
