Independent Colleges and Universities Strive for Academic and Athletic Excellence

  • Sixty-seven of New York State’s Independent Sector colleges and universities belong to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), eight percent more than a decade ago.[1]
  • Student-athletes derive lifelong benefits from their experiences in college athletic programs.  Student-athletes may compete in a variety of men’s and women’s sports, including: basketball, baseball, football, lacrosse, cross country, track, hockey, volleyball, fencing, soccer, golf, gymnastics, diving, skiing, softball, rowing, swimming, tennis, water polo, bowling, and wrestling.[2]
