Statement from CICU President Mary Beth Labate on Passage of Legislation Expanding the Master's-in-Education Teacher Incentive Scholarship:

“Nearly two-thirds of the students pursuing graduate degrees in education in New York choose to study at private, not-for-profit colleges and universities. On behalf of New York’s 100+ private, not-for-profit colleges and universities, we are grateful to the Legislature for expanding New York’s Master’s-in-Education Teacher Incentive Scholarship Program to these students. The scholarship had been restricted to only students pursuing these degrees at SUNY or CUNY campuses. This legislation will enable students pursuing graduate degrees in education fields to apply for scholarships equal to the value of SUNY tuition. This is an important step toward ensuring New York has a cadre of well-educated teachers ready to meet the state’s needs, something Governor Cuomo has long advocated for. We encourage the Governor to sign this legislation into law so that all students can benefit from this program,” said Mary Beth Labate, president of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities.
