Keith Cushing

Vice President of Public Affairs and Research


Keith Cushing, Vice President, Public Affairs and Research at the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU), leads a team focused on research, policy analysis, and government relations in support of advocacy efforts on behalf of 100+ private, not-for-profit colleges and universities in New York State. 

Keith is a business analytics professional with experience in marketing research, management consulting, higher education, and government relations. At CICU, he collects, cleans, analyzes, and enriches data using a variety of data tools to support advocacy efforts.

Prior to joining CICU, Keith worked at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), serving as lead business support analyst on RPI’s data warehouse team. In this role, he gathered business requirements, coordinated rollout activities, and managed the user-facing side of the data warehouse system. He helped data warehouse users leverage business intelligence tools for strategic and operational purposes, and mine their data for unexpected results. While at RPI, he earned a leadership award for exceptional performance in the design and implementation of RPI’s nationally recognized data warehouse.

Before joining RPI, Keith worked at Mercer Management Consulting (Oliver Wyman), first as a marketing research analyst and later as a project manager and consultant on client engagements.

Keith earned a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Bentley University in Waltham, MA, and a bachelor’s degree in music education from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
