In the year 2000, we began honoring individuals- alumni of New York State private colleges and universities, who use their talents to improve their communities and hence the lives of their neighbors. This year, 2003, we present a remarkable array of men and women who exemplify the best in public service.
All had a calling: to serve their communities. Now, as members of the 108th U.S. Congress, they are committed to governing, for the good of us all.
Some of our distinguished alumni acquired an undergraduate degree from a New York State independent college; others completed a master's or doctoral degree at one of our outstanding universities. Some were political science majors, others earned a doctorate in physics, others in health administration, yet others in law. Their range of interests is breathtaking, and their accomplishments extraordinary.
As we recount their efforts, we are proud to have educated so many members of our current Congress; it is testimony to the critical importance of higher education in the lives of all Americans.
Herewith, we present 39 profiles of impressive Americans. May we all learn from, and be inspired by their extraordinary lives.
