Independent Sector 2002
Alumni Hall of Distinction ~ People With a Purpose

Each year the more than 100 private colleges and universities in New York State educate 418,000 students. Our Alumni Hall honors some of the most distinguished of our graduates: men and women who help make New York State great. In the year 2000, we began honoring individual alumni of New York State private colleges and universities who use their talents to improve their communities and hence the lives of New Yorkers.

For 2002 the New Yorkers chosen for this award have talents in many different areas. One is renowned in the world of architecture; others are strong advocates for the environment; one has dedicated her life to health care; others have worked to strengthen technology and encourage economic development in our state. All are givers; whatever their area of expertise, they strongly believe in public service as a way of life. And all are graduates of New York State's private colleges and universities that give back to their communities through education, research, and outreach.

Like our seven honorees, colleges and universities of the Independent Sector are committed to a purpose: to use their talents and resources for the good of all.
