They come from different backgrounds. They followed different paths as educators: many began their careers as teachers or counselors, some becoming principals or school district superintendents. They educate students of all ages in elementary and secondary school settings.
While their paths may have diverged in some ways, these educators share a constant theme in their work and in their lives: They help students - and their families - grow stronger through the power of education.
For graduates of New York State independent colleges and universities, education is not only a profession, but a passion.
Collectively, they have done much to improve the achievement of students in New York State. They have been inspirational leaders, changing lives every day. And, they have been mentors, helping individual students reach new heights.
Mainly, they have given hope and opportunity to students and their families, regardless of their academic, cultural, or socioeconomic challenges. They encourage students to see beyond - and go beyond - their circumstances and to hold on to their dreams and aspirations.
They show all their students that they care. The message they communicate? "You matter."
