The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

Serving Communities

  • The highest federal recognition a college can earn for civic engagement is to appear on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
  • Since 2006, the Honor Roll has highlighted the role colleges and universities play in solving community problems and placing more students on a lifelong path of civic engagement by recognizing institutions that achieve meaningful, measurable outcomes in the communities they serve.
  • College and university students serve their communities in a variety of ways, including: literacy initiatives, disaster relief, building and repairing houses, tutoring and mentoring high school students, organizing health and nutrition programs, and assisting senior citizens.
